"It turns out effectively after the news about gijzeling published nationally. Gijzeling is a form of body forced taxpayers who do not pay off the debt. Gijzeling is set in Billing Tax Act No. 19 of 2000 forced letter.
Wahju said, it was targeting how people who would be subject to gijzeling annually. "We don't set any targets, because what we expect is the general taxpayer compliance, both because of normal and billing reasons," he said. "Even we hope that no one get gijzeling."
The alumnus of Harvard University said, nationally, the tax which can be collected up to the insured this year is around Rp 20 billion. However, gijzeling can not directly be done because it takes at least two years plus a three-month billing process.
"It is a long process. Having no tax assessment, the taxpayer may file an objection or appeal. If you already have a final decision but has not paid off, we can only do gijzeling," he said.
To that end, underscoring the need for synergy between the Wahju police, the Directorate General of Taxation, and Customs and Excise through a memorandum of understanding in enforcing the law in the field of customs, excise, taxation, as well as other crimes.
"This synergy is expected to give a psychological impact to taxpayers, but not to scare or threaten them," he said. If there are obstacles in billing or investigation, said Wahju, the DGT need police assistance.
